Plans to Raise Shasta Dam gets Federal Funding
The Trump administration is giving 40 million dollars to a plan to raise Shasta Dam, a move backed by California farmers. Supporters say it will help supply water to hundreds of farms, but critics warn it could flood sacred land, harm the McCloud River, and threaten endangered salmon. Shasta Dam, just north of Redding, is California's tallest dam and creates the state's largest reservoir, holding over 40 percent of the water used to irrigate Central Valley farms. California has tried to stop the project before. State law blocks state help if the project would harm the river or fish.
