A former Biggs mayor pleaded no contest on Wednesday, August 5, in Butte County Superior Court to multiple sex crime charges involving a foreign exchange student who lived in his home in 2023. Bassett pleaded no contest to three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He faces a maximum sentence of four years and four months in state prison. The judge ordered Bassett held without bail at the Butte County Jail pending his sentencing Sept. 2.
