Wildfire Victim Restitution Bill Passes CA Senate
AB 2700(the wildfire victim restitution bill) has passed the state senate in a unanimous vote. the bill now heads back to the assembly for any amendments. The bill addresses undercompensated victims of utility-caused wildfires where survivors received only about 70% of their awarded compensation through settlement funds.
It directs the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to produce a report by January 1, 2028, detailing these unpaid losses and outlining mechanisms for electrical corporations to fully compensate victims without raising electricity rates for consumers.
