Oroville Standoff

A wanted man prompts a standoff with authorities in Butte County. Oroville Police were attempting to negotiate with a suspect held up in a motor home on the one hundred block of Fairhill Drive around 5 pm Thursday evening. The suspect, 51-year-old Ronnie Johnson was wanted for charges of domestic violence, kidnapping, and false imprisonment. The Butte County SWAT Team was called out and introduced gas into the motor home to try to flush Johnson out. Johnson instead, reportedly put the motor home in reverse hitting a patrol vehicle. Authorities entered the motor home and detained Johnson and three other people that were inside.

Ex-Butte County Employee Sentenced for Theft

A former Butte County employee is sentenced for theft of public money. 49-year-old Michelle Aguila, of Chico was sentenced Wednesday to 60 days in the Butte County Jail and three years formal probation. Aguila was charged with taking over 24 thousand dollars between 2013 and 2015 while employed with the Environmental Health Division of the Public Health Department. Aguila was said to have taken the cash after a supervisor had signed off on the deposit slips and she would then alter the documents. Officials discovered the discrepancy in the deposits prompting an investigation. 
In addition to jail time Aguila was ordered to pay restitution to the county plus the cost of the investigation.     

Oroville Assault

There were two arrests in a car buying scheme in Oroville. The incident reportedly took place at the Helen Wilcox School on Autrey Lane in Oroville where the two victims were going to buy a vehicle advertised on-line for sale before 5 pm Tuesday. The buyers were reportedly assaulted as the suspects attempted to rob them. The male victim was injured as he jumped onto the vehicle as the suspects were attempting to get away.
19 year old Paul Chirita and 19 year old Adriana Pavich were later found and arrested.

Fatal Vehicle Vs Pedestrian Collision

A pedestrian is killed after being struck by a vehicle in Palermo this morning. The collision happened in the area of Power House Hill and Palermo roads after 1 am this morning. C-H-P officers arrived to find a man lying in the middle of the road after the driver who allegedly struck the man reported the incident. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the Butte County Coroner was called out to the scene. According to the C-H-P, the driver's vehicle was towed for evidence.

Butte County Sheriff's Bike Giveaway

The Butte County Sheriff's Office will have it's 17th Annual Christmas Bike Giveaway this morning. Bikes will be given away to deserving children at the Butte County Sheriff's Office 33 County Center Drive off of Nelson Avenue in Oroville at 10 am this morning. Over 100 bikes have been refurbished by participants of the Restoration Cycles program. According to the sheriff's office, the program helps participants learn job skills. Each child who receives a bike this morning will also get a helmet.

Butte County Suspicious Death

A utility worker reportedly found a deceased white male at a residence off of Bloomer Hill Road in Berry Creek around 4 pm Monday afternoon. Authorities say the body appeared to have been there for several days. There were no signs of foul play, but detectives are investigating this as a suspicious death. An autopsy is scheduled this week.

Highway 99 Accident

C-H-P reported a traffic collision at the Highway 99 South East Avenue on-ramp around 7:40 am this morning. A vehicle reportedly rear-ended another vehicle. Chico Police and Fire Dispatch initially reported injuries from the accident, but later reported that it was a non-injury accident.

Highway 99 South Ax

The C-H-P reported a vehicle on its side on the Highway 99 South, East Avenue offramp. The crash was reported around 7:15 this morning. Authorities say that the vehicle hydroplaned. The area is still reportedly being cleared and as of 8:30 am there were reports of bumper to bumper traffic.

Highway 99 and Nelson Shippee Road Accident

The CHP is reporting a traffic collision at Highway 99 and Nelson Shippee Road west of Oroville just before 9 am this morning. A grey van collided with a silver Dodge Charger. The CHP is saying that a 3rd vehicle was also involved. No word on what happened with that vehicle. The vehicles and debris are in the Northbound and Southbound lanes. Emergency crews are reportedly at the scene.

Chico Police are on the lookout for a attempted robbery suspect.

Officers arrived at the Motel 6 on Manzanita Court around 7 pm Monday and found the victim of an attempted robbery. The man told officers that he was walking on the property when he was approached by a man who was allegedly armed with a semi-automatic handgun. The suspect reportedly assaulted the victim and tried to steal his backpack, wallet, and room key. However the suspect was unsuccessful and reportedly fled in a silver Jaguar sedan. The victim suffered minor injuries and he declined medical treatment. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chico Police Department. 

Big Rig Crash

A big rig crashes Monday night north of Oroville. The CHP reported the crash around 7 pm in the area of Highway 149 and Highway 99. The big rig was reportedly on its side and glass bottles spilled on the roadway. Fuel was also reported spilled on the roadway. Both southbound lanes were closed into this morning while crews reportedly cleaned up 42 thousand pounds of glass bottles on the roadway. The bottles reportedly shifted causing the big rig turn over.
KRCR TV reported that the southbound lanes of Highway 99 north of Highway 149 were reopened after 6 am this morning.

 

A man suffers major injuries after being struck by a car in Chico.

Officers arrived at Mangrove Avenue just south of East 3rd Avenue after 5 pm Saturday to find a unresponsive man in the northbound lane. The unidentified 60-year-old victim was transported to Enloe Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. According to police, the driver, an 18-year-old woman did not appear to be intoxicated and witness told police that the man allegedly walked into traffic without any regard for his safety.
During the course of the investigation another car drove around police barricades. The driver, 64-year-old Bradley Sellers was arrested for D-U-I.

 

Nor Cal Earthquake

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The United States Geological Survey reports a 6.5 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Northern California in the Pacific Ocean. The quake hit at 6:50 a.m. Thursday about 100 miles west of Ferndale, California.

An Attempted Vehicle Thief is Arrested

An attempted vehicle theft leads to a severed finger. 22-year-old Angel Orozco-Vargas of Oroville reportedly told hospital staff at Enloe that he severed his finger while trying to break into a vehicle at 5th and Ivy streets before 11 pm Wednesday night. Officers arrived to the area to find the suspect's finger along with a knife he allegedly used to try to break into the vehicle. Officers learned that the suspect was also connected to an alleged stolen vehicle that was recovered earlier that morning. 
Police say that Orozco-Vargas is still being treated due to the severity of his injury.

Chico Vehicle Theft Arrest

Chico police arrest a suspected vehicle thief. Officers found a silver Toyota Tundra on Cameo Drive in north Chico before 10 am Tuesday that they believed was recently stolen. Officers watched a man they recognized as 46-year-old Eugene Needham leave the truck and enter an apartment. The officers investigated further and discovered that the pickup had indeed been reported stolen. The Needham surrendered to authorities a short time later. Officers reportedly found checks and social security cards from at least two recent burglaries. Burglary tools and methamphetamine were also allegedly found in Needham's possession.

Chico Early Morning Fatal Hit and Run

Chico Police are investigating a fatal hit and run this morning. The incident happened before 1:30 am this morning on Nord Avenue near West Sacramento Avenue. A woman in her 20s was reportedly walking with friends when she was struck and killed by the driver of four door tan Honda Civic near the Oakwood Apartments. News reports indicate that police have found the vehicle believed to be the suspect's just before 5 am this morning. No word on the whereabouts of the suspect.
Authorities reportedly had the intersection of West Sacramento and Nord Avenues blocked to southbound traffic and northbound traffic was rerouted while they investigated the incident.
