Pilot Dies in Air Plane Crash in Richvale

A Small Crop Dusting Plane crashed just off the runway at the Richvale Airport Tuesday .. Investigators say that the FAA will be on the scene to investigate the Crash. Cal Fire Units were on scene to clean up fuel and materials that spilled from the plane.. Authorities say the pilot was killed suffering major injuries..

Paradise to Change Day For Siren Tower Tests

The Town of Paradise has announced a change to the schedule for the Early Warning Siren tests. Starting on June 15, the tests will occur on the 15th of every month at noon. the switch being made after community input.

Butte Co asking Voters to Approve 1 cent Sales tax Hike

Butte County Offcials are asking voters for a 1 cent sales tax hike.  Butte County Adminstrative Officer Andy Picketts says the funding is needed for Public Safety and other services (Libraries) .   Sherrif Korea Honea says his department needs the additional funding to hire new Correctional Officers for the new jail as well as keeping competitive with New Hires.    Butte County Administrators will present their Proposal to Supervisors on June 11 . 

Chico Police arrest Man on Murder Charges

Chico Police arrested a man for killing another man with a golf club Sunday in Chico. The incident started around 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Police were called to a fight at an apartment near the Regency Inn in the 2500 block of the Esplanade. The caller said a man was hit on the head with a golf club . The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Two hours later, Chico police were called to a disturbance on the other side of town in south Chico. Officers located Hunter Harris as the other person involved in the fight , the investigation lead to his arrest for the murder.

Chico Police seek Help in locating Juveniles

Chico Police are searching for possible juveniles involved in a fight that led to a victim being cut on the forehead, Chico police said. At about 8:30 p.m., Chico police officers responded to the 1000 block of East Lassen Avenue on a report of a physical fight, police said. The original reporting party said that the involved people were possibly juveniles, One of the juveniles reportedly used a piece of glass to cut a man. . Chico Police are asking for any help if you know something reach out to the Chico Police Department.

Concow Man Charged Arson for Ranch Fire

A Concow man was arraigned in Butte County Superior Court today on charges of arson and vandalism resulting in the Ranch Fire in the Concow area on May 15, 2024. Charles was charged today by the Butte County District Attorney with 11 counts of intentional arson and one count of vandalism in two separate filings with the Butte County Superior Court. . Porter will be back in court for further arraignment on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Shasta County Sups Give themselves a Big Raise

The Shasta County Supervisors approved a 59% pay raise for themselves on Tuesday. Supervisors will now be getting a salary of just over $84,000, a bump of about $30,000 per year. In addition to the salary, they will also be given a yearly $5,000 vehicle allowance as well as an annual cost of living increase. The board had not had a pay increase in 22 years. The pay raise goes into effect on July 14.

Butte County Jury Finds Man Guilty Murder

Butte County jury this afternoon handed down a first-degree murder verdict regarding the April 15, 2020 killing of Joshua Elysee, then 21 years old. Johnny Osby, of Chico, was also found guilty of assault with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The jury also found special allegations to be true that Osby was lying in wait and fired from a vehicle at the time of the murder. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said on April 14, 2020, around 9:00 p.m. the Chico Police Department responded to a report of multiple gunshots heard in the 1500 block of Nord Avenue.. thats when they discoverd the homicide victim.. . Sentencing is set for July 18, 2024, when Osby will be facing life without the possibility of parole.

State Groundwater breaks records

Thanks to a wet 2023, California's groundwater supplies are at historic levels. Stephen Springhorn is an engineering geologist with the California Department of Water Resources, and he puts the amount of water collected into perspective saying the levels now equal the amount of water in Shasta Lake . Springhorn says we need a few more years of heavy rain to recover from decades of drought. He adds that the state, counties, and cities are getting much better at collecting and storing water, and ongoing projects are underway to improve that efficiency going forward.

PUC looks at New Energy Rate Structures

A vote is coming today/Thursday that impacts millions of Californians. State regulators will decide whether to change electricity bills, saving some people money but possibly leaving others paying more. This affects the three major investor-owned utilities: PG&E, SoCal Edison, and San Diego Gas and Electric. The proposed plan has two parts. One would lower the usage rate by five-to-seven cents per kilowatt hour, dropping ten-percent during peak hours. The other calls for a flat rate of 24-dollars, giving a discount to lower income customers.

Butte Co Sups ask for 1 cent Sales tax increase

Butte County is looking for a way to provide stable funding for resources like libraries and public safety. The county wants voters to decide if they want to pay a one-cent sales tax to support country services on the upcoming November ballot. The County Chief Administrative Officer says that funding for the Sherrifs office Libraries and FireDept had a one time fund and that funding expires soon. County Offcials have scheduled Comunity meetings to get your input.. May 14th 5:30 at the Chico Library, May 15th 5:30 at the Gridley Library, May 16th 5:30 at the Oroville Library and May 28th 5:30 at the Paradise Library

Chico Council Approves Funds for Sober Center

The Chico City Council voted 7-0 to partner with Butte Behavioral Health in funding the new sobering center. The funds will come from the opioid settlement funds, and the city will provide $375,000 for the first three years. Butte Behavioral Director, Scott Kennelly told the council that Butte Behavioral is still discussing funding with the City of Oroville and with the county but could expect the sobering center to open no later than August.

Boy Scouts to Rebrand

The Boy Scouts of America is changing its name to "Scouting America." The organization said it's officially making the change February 2025 as a sign of its commitment to inclusion. More than a million youth are currently enrolled in Boy Scouts' programs across the nation. That includes over 175-thousand girls.

New Bill To End Self Checkout

There's a new push to get rid of self-checkouts across the state. That could happen under a proposed bill if grocery and pharmacy stores don't meet certain requirements. The goal is to change regulations in hopes of cutting down on thefts. It would also boost employment by increasing the number of employees monitoring the stations. The California Chamber of Commerce is against the move, saying it could hurt business.

Ca Reaches Agreement with Pharma Re: Opioids

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is announcing a 273-Million dollar agreement with a drug manufacturer in the ongoing opioid epidemic. Bonta says Amneal Pharmaceuticals failed to properly monitor and report suspicious orders. If completed, the agreement in principle will provide 92-Million dollars in cash and over 180-Million nationwide in opioid overdose reversal products to resolve claims by states and local communities. States that do not accept the medication will receive cash in lieu of the products. The negotiations in this agreement have been led by California, New York, Delaware, Tennessee, Utah, and Virginia.

Paradise fastest growing in state

The Town of Paradise has made some big strides in recovery since the 2018 Camp Fire, so much so that Paradise has been named the fastest-growing town in California, According to the California Department of Finance, the Town of Paradise's population grew from the population of around 4,000 in 2020 to almost 11,000 in 2024.

CHICO POLICE HAVE ARRESTED A SUSPECT IN A STABBING INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED THURSDAY AFTERNOON ON THE 700 BLOCK OF NORD AVENUE. OFFCIALS CLOSED OFF AN AREA OF NORD FROM STEWART AVE TO W SACRAMENTO WHILE THEY INVESTIGATED AND REPORTED THEY MADE AN ARREST JUST BEFORE 10P LAST NIGHT. THE VICTIM WAS TREATED FOR A STAB WOUND. NO WORD ON THE CONDITION OF THE VICTIM
