Chico Battery Arrest

A man is arrested for an assault at a Chico homeless shelter. Medical personnel arrived to the Jesus Center on the report that someone had fallen before 4 Tuesday morning. A 57-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for severe neck and head injuries. Chico Police later learned that the woman had allegedly been pushed down the stairs by 22-year-old Brian McCaskel who had reportedly gotten involved in an argument between the victim and another women. According to a Chico Police press release, McCaskel was arrested for battery causing serious injury.
Police say the victim's condition is stable and that her injuries are currently not life threatening.

 

Chico Wanted Attempted Murder Suspect

Chico Police are search for a suspect in an attempted murder. Officers were arrived to a home on Ebano Way just before 5 Wednesday evening where they found a 31-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Police learned that the victim had allegedly been in a physical altercation with her husband before she was stabbed. The suspect, identified as Luis Contreras-Rodriguez fled the scene in a Dodge pickup before officers arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital where she is currently listed in stable condition.
According to a Chico Police Department press release, the suspect is described as an Hispanic male around 5 foot -- 4 inches tall and 185 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
His vehicle is described as a 2003 gray Dodge 1500 pickup with an extended cab, California License plate number - 52090B1.
Police say he is considered armed and dangerous.

Bangor House Fire

Fire crews battled a structure fire in south Butte County early this morning. The blaze started at a house on La Porte Road in Bangor after 5:30 this morning. Firefighters arrived to find the home well involved. According to Cal Fire, one resident was injured and flown to Enloe Medical Center. Cal Fire reported on twitter before 7:30 that the fire has been extinguished.

Neal Road Vehicle Verses Telephone Pole Crash

CHP reported a vehicle collision on Neal Road at the Oroville-Chico Highway south of Chico before 8 this morning. According the CHP, a vehicle struck a telephone pole. CHP officers say the pole was sheered off and is on top of the vehicle. No word on the extent of injuries.

Paradise Robbery and Homicide Sentence

The first of several suspects in a Paradise robbery and homicide was sentenced Wednesday. 26-year-old Joshua Bush of Concow was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison for the second-degree murder of 31-year-old Adam Wrangham.
The incident happened at Wrangham's home on Lucky John Road in Paradise back in November of 2015. That's when Bush and four others entered the home. Authorities say a gun fired during a struggle between Wrangham and Bush.
Wrangham was struck in the chest and died from the gunshot wound. According to a Butte County District Attorney's Office press release, Bush and the others then escaped with around 400 pounds of marijuana. The four other suspects with Bush also face sentencing.
 
 

Glenn County Body IDed

The man found dead late last week in Glenn County has been identified. The Glenn County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that body found at a home in Artois on Friday is that of 63-year-old Donald Zucker. The victim was reportedly shot multiple times. According to a Glenn County Sheriff's Office press release, the death appears to be an isolated incident and is believed to be narcotics related. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

Chico St. Patrick's Day Arrest Stats

Chico Police say there were minimal problems over the St. Patrick's Day weekend. Police say that was due to Chico State and Butte College aligning their spring break this week. The department did have extra staff downtown and around the south campus area on Saturday.
According to a Chico Police Department press release, there were a total of 27 arrests. Of those 10 included public intoxication, 7 for violence, 4 warrant arrests, 3 DUI arrests, 1 arrest for theft, one for drug possession, and one for trespassing.

 

Chico Robbery and Assault

Chico Police are searching for suspects in a robbery and assault last night. Officers arrived at the Rosedale Elementary School on Oak Street to find a custodian suffering from injuries to his face just before 10 Thursday night. The victim told officers that he was approached by two unknown men who allegedly assaulted him and took his cell phone. They then reportedly left in a dark S-U-V. The suspects are described in their late teen to early twenties. One of the suspects is described as white and the other African American with dreadlocks.

Chico State Student Fell Update

Update: Chico State has tweeted that classes at Plumas Hall will resume at noon. However, Butte Hall will remain closed until further notice. This after a student reportedly fell from a stairwell at Butte Hall around 9 am this morning. Chico State officials are saying that crisis counseling services for students, faculty, and staff are available in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium all day.

Chico State Student Fell

Reports are coming in that University Police have responded to an incident on the Chico State campus after 9 am this morning. Someone reportedly fell from one of the stairwells inside Butte Hall. Officials are saying that classes at Butte and Plumas halls are canceled until further notice. According to a recent Chico State tweet, police are still investigating the incident.

Chico Domestic Violence Arrest Wednesday

Chico Police received a report after 11:30 Wednesday morning that 41-year-old David Arkos had left a medical facility after allegedly making a threat to kill his wife. As officers were being dispatched the estranged wife of Arkos called and stated that he was there and had allegedly battered her. He also reportedly violated a domestic violence restraining order. Officers arrived to the residence on Arbutus Avenue where they found the victim who was moved to a safe place. Arkos reportedly barricaded himself in the home. According to a Chico Police Department press release, a warrant for Arkos arrested was obtained and the swat team entered the house. Arkos surrendered and was arrested.

Chico City Council set to look at New Crime Bill

Prison reform comes before Chico Leaders this week. The Chico City Council will be looking at the Reducing Crime and Keeping California Safe Act of 2018 which is not unlike on approved act by the city of Eureka recently and looks at changing prison reform laws. Specifically, the Act seeks to challenge some of of the changes made under Assembly Bill 109 and proposition 47 that were both passed by voters. The New measure is set to go before voters in November. It seeks to add to a list of violent crimes to make offienders not eligible for early release and to expand the collection of DNA.

Man Arrested in Oroville following Shooting Death

A suspect in a shooting death over the weekend has been arrested. The Victim, 22-year-old Adam Krater was taken to Oroville Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head after 2:30 Sunday morning. Krater was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officers started searching for 25-year-old Noah Gonzales who was believed to be the man who left Krater at the hospital. Officers found Gonzales around 9:30 that morning and after an indepth interview he was arrested for murder. Police also located the firearm allegedly used in the shooting. No motive for the shooting has been released at this time.  

Power outage in East Oroville Area

Hundreds are being reported without power this morning in the Oroville area including Barry Creek. The PG&E outage page is listing over 770 customers in the east Oroville area being affected by the outage which started around 4 am. Crews are currently working on the issue.
