Newsome approves State IDs for Undocumented

Undocumented immigrants in California are now allowed to get an ID. Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill he calls "a critical step for inclusion." He made it clear the state is expanding opportunity for everyone regardless of their status, adding 27-percent of people are immigrants. The change will help college students with financial options and make it easier for street vendors to get local health permits.

Butte Co Sup Lucero Steps Down

Butte County Supervisor Debra Lucero announced that she would be stepping down from her seat on Nov. 1 after taking a position with Plumas County as its chief administrative officer. That leaves an open seat as Peter Durfee, who defeated Lucero in the last election isnt set to take the seat until January... Butte COunty Administrators say they are waiting on a response from the Governor's Office.

Chico PD Arrests Man on Mass Shooting Threats

Chico police say they arrested a man who was planning a mass shooting with a deadline to carry it out. Investigators say they uncovered evidence 37-year-old Dallas Marsh was planning on committing what police described as a "Las Vegas Style" mass shooting but didn't elaborate. They arrested him Sunday on a warrant at the Super 8 Motel on Manzanita Court. Police say Marsh threatened to kill the officers while in custody.

Chico PD Reports Scam

The Chico Police Department is warning Chico residents of a scam attempt at several residences where scammers are pretending to be representatives of Chico PD. The suspect would use different lines of questioning on each of the calls, including asking the residents about outstanding warrants and other police-related questions to the respective resident. Chico Police say they will never call to solicit money..

911 SYSTEM DOWN

911 call centers are down across California Monday cutting off key communication for emergency responders. The phone outage was reported around 2:30 a.m. Monday.This interruption is affecting law enforcement dispatch centers throughout the entire date. If you need help, you can text 911. Prince Charles at age 73 is now the oldest person to ever assume the British throne, becoming King Charles III on Thursday following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. No date has been set for his coronation. The longest-reigning monarch that Britain has ever known, Elizabeth died at 96 at her beloved summer home in Scotland, after having steadied and modernized the royal institution through seven decades of huge social change.

Oil Co Pleads Guilty over Oil Spill in SoCal

An oil company has pleaded guilty in federal court to negligently discharging crude off the Southern California coast when its underwater pipeline ruptured last year. Houston-based Amplify Energy and two of its subsidiaries each pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor charge in federal court. Meanwhile, in state court, the companies agreed to enter no contest pleas Friday to killing birds and water pollution in a settlement with county and state officials stemming from the spill. Amplify's pipeline broke off the Orange County coast, spilling about 25,000 gallons of oil into the Pacific Ocean in October 2021

Larsen wins Night 1 Gold Cup

First night of racing for Gold Cup and Kyle Larson – gets the win in his one and only night at Gold Cup this week. He won't be back for Saturday's finale with NASCAR obligations taking precedent, but he had the time for Thursday's opener and made the most of it; returning to Victory Lane at the same place where his first-career World of Outlaws win came in 2011.

Shooting Suspect to be tried as Juvenile

Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey says A teenage suspect in the murder of a homeless man at Chico's Teichert Ponds will be tried as a juvenile. Ramsey said the judge ruled that the 17-year-old boy will remain in juvenile court for trial and disposition in connection to a deadly shooting nearly a year ago. The suspect will be back in court to set a trial date on Sept 14

Potential Monkeypox Case at Chico State

Officials at Chico state sent an email to Students warning about a possible case of monkeypox on campus. The WellCat Health Center says "we believe the campus has experienced its first suspected case of Monkeypox." The email says diagnostic lab results are pending and the person is in isolation. Chico State and Butte County Public Health are working together to notify potential close contacts.

Lawmakers send Fire Fund Tax Exempt Bill to Gov Newsome

A bill that provides state tax relief to fire victims getting settlements from the Fire Victim's Trust was passed by the legislature with unanimous bi-partisan support and is now waiting for the Governor's signature. AB 1249 will clarify California's tax code to allow all types of filers to be excluded from paying state taxes on advance settlements paid out of the trust.
