Lower BIdwell Park Road Work Begins

Construction will begin on Peterson Memorial Drive in Lower Bidwell Park. The project will focus on repairing the road in the park, The gravel parking lots at both ends of the road will also be resurfaced: one near Sycamore Pool on the west side, and the other near Vallombrosa Avenue and Salishan Court on the east side. Construction crews SCHEDULED TO WRK FOR THE NEXT 6 WEEKS with a completion goal of early August.

POTUS to meet w Natl Security Council on Iran Bombings

President Trump will meet with his National Security Team today after a series of U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend. On his Truth Social platform Sunday, Trump said the damage to the nuclear sites was "monumental." The president also appeared to support the possibility of regime change in Iran. Trump wrote, "If the current Iranian Regime is unable to Make Iran Great Again, why wouldn't there be a regime change?"

Rite Aid Closing North State Stores

Drugstore chain Rite Aid is filing for bankruptcy for the second time in three years. As a result, some of the stores in our region will be closing for good later this year. it's part of a bigger plan for Rite Aid to shutter hundreds of locations across the country. 3 locations in Redding, 2 in Chico and 1 in Anderson, Palo Cedro and Paradise, respectively, will all close their doors. All in all, more than 700 Rite Aid locations, or more than two-thirds of all stores, will be closing later this year. No official date has been set for when the locations will close their doors for good.

Chico PD Arrest 2 men during Traffic Stop

Chico Police Department report Two men were arrested Sunday night after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of cocaine and loaded firearms said. Officers stopped a vehicle at the intersection of E. 8th Street and Main Street for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as 27-year-old Jose Vazquez-Linares, and the passenger as 29-year-old Andres Mungia-Cabello. Police said a handgun was observed in plain view inside the vehicle. After safely detaining both occupants, a search revealed four plastic bags containing cocaine and a firearm loaded with five live rounds. Both men are facing charges

Man Dies in Red Bluff Police Custody

Red Bluff Police were dispatched to the area of Main Street and Highway 36 West at 9:20 a.m. on Monday, June 16, for a report of a possible stolen bicycle. When they arrived, officers tried to detain the man, who they said physically resisted their efforts. Additional officers arrived to assist and placed the man in custody. Police said the man began showing signs of medical distress. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures and requested emergency medical assistance. However, despite CPR and other efforts by officers and responding medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing..

State Lawmakers Approve bill for Car Dealers to Hike Fees

The California Senate passes legislation that allows car dealers to charge buyers hundreds more in extra fees on vehicle purchases. This comes as both political parties had promised to lower costs for people. Only one senator opposed the bill, which raises the maximum processing fee from 85 dollars to as much as five hundred, or one percent of the car's price. Car dealers claim the increased fees are needed to cover rising costs related to handling paperwork, such as loan documents and vehicle registrations.

Paradise Evacuation Project

The Town of Paradise is planning to extend Roe Road into a vital evacuation route and seeks community input to move forward. Officials explained the expansion would connect Roe Road to Clark Road, Pentz Road and Skyway, creating a new evacuation pathway. There will be a town Hall meeting Wednesday night to provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the project and ask questions.

Newsome Sues Trump Admin over Natl Guard in LA

Governor Gavin Newsom says that the state will sue President Trump over what he called an "illegal, immoral and unconstitutional" deployment of the National Guard as protests took place across Los Angeles. Newsom accused the president of "putting fuel on the fire" of the crisis, while also daring former ICE Director Tom Homan and Trump to arrest him for allegedly aiding and abetting undocumented immigrants in the state.

Chico Planning Commission Approves 2 new park projects

The Chico Planning Commission gave the go-ahead for two major projects, the Chico Aquatic Center and a new bike park, in their meeting on Thursday night. The bike park, proposed for the corner of Humboldt Road and Notre Dame Boulevard, was approved with a 3 to 1 vote. The 7-acre facility will include three tracks, ramps, jumps, and a picnic area.

ICE Protests lead to Chaos in LA

Dozens of people are facing charges after more anti-immigration enforcement protests in downtown Los Angeles. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said nearly 60 people were taken into custody either by the LAPD or the CHP over the weekend. Protesters shut down both sides of the 101 Freeway Sunday and refused to disperse. One person arrested Sunday allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at an officer. Civil unrest continued into the early morning hours today, with crowds gathering very late Sunday night near L.A. Live and Crypto-dot-com Arena. Several fires were burning in the streets in other parts of downtown, but police and firefighters were letting them burn.

Red Bluff Council Votes To Censure one of their own

In a unanimous vote on Tuesday night, the Red Bluff City Council voted to censure Councilman Cody Strock and pull him from committees. The Red Bluff City Council voted to censure Strock in regards to several complaints that were made against him. A formal complaint accused Strock of violating city council code by submitting a conditional use permit fee waiver request for a community garden project under his non-profit organization.

Man Gets 5yrs for Crash that Killed Pregnant Woman

A man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for a deadly crash on Highway 99 that killed a woman, her unborn child, and injured another person near Vina. According to the Tehama County District Attorney's Office, Andre Tucker pled guilty to vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence for the deadly crash on Highway 99 in October last year.

CUSD Allegations v. Coach still under investigation

Chico Unified says that the investigation into the allegations against Chico High Volleyball Coach Chas Konopka have not been resolved and any reporting of the party being cleared of the allegatons was not accurate. Chico HIgh Athletic Director did report the coach has been cleared to coach District officials report the complaint process is still ongoing and are confident that the concerns addressed will benefit the program and entire athletic program district wide moving forward.

Corning Teen Arrested for Ghost Gun

A teen was arrested after being found with a Ghost Gun during a traffic stop in Corning. According to the Corning Police Department (CPD), Saturday night around 11 p.m., an officer pulled over a car with an expired registration on Blossom Avenue. Officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun hidden inside a fanny pack-style shoulder bag. The firearm was an unserialized gun commonly known as a Ghost Gun. the juvenile was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall

Placer Co Search & Rescue Find missing Hikers

Two hikers were successfully rescued after becoming stranded on Rock Creek in the Feather River Canyon on May 31, 2025. The Plumas County Search and Rescue team was alerted to the situation at approximately 6:30 p.m. Despite the challenging conditions, the hikers were uninjured and were able to be extracted on foot. the Hikers were able to drive away from the scene

Chico PD CHP Find Missing Juveniles Safe

Chico Police Department announced that the missing juveniles, Jovian and Atlas Kirkendall, have been found safe. They were located Friday evening by officers with the California Highway Patrol in the Natomas area of Northern California. A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with their disappearance.
