Stolen Vehicle Arrest

An alleged car thief is caught by Chico Police. An officer spotted a green Honda Civic on Walnut Street before 2:30 pm Saturday that was reported stolen last month. The officer initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Dayton and Berrington Drive. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Levi Gill stopped and was arrested. The car was returned to the owner. 
Police say that Gill has been arrested in the past for numerous theft and narcotics related charges.   

Chico Stolen Bicycle Arrest

Chico Police recover a stolen bicycle and make an arrested. Chico police found 37-year-old Martin Martinez allegedly in possession of a stolen bicycle on the corner of West 3rd and Ceder streets after 2 am this morning. The bike was reported stolen from a nearby business with the cable lock reportedly found cut. Officers allegedly found bolt cutters on Martinez at the time of his arrest.

Traffic Incidents

The CHP is reporting a vehicle rollover on Durham Pentz Road near Messilla Valley Road this morning. The vehicle reportedly went off the road and rolled over on to its roof in a ditch along a creek before 8:30 this morning. CHP says that there were no injuries in the crash.

The CHP is also reporting a rock slide on Deadwood Road at Highway 70 east of Paradise this morning. The slide is made up of rocks and mud and is in the middle of the roadway. It was reported after 8:30 this morning.

Victims of Willows Fatal Ax Have Been IDed

The Glenn County Sheriff's Office has just identified the three people killed in a head-on Collision near Willows Wednesday. 33-year-old Blake Nehlig , 25-year-old Sierra Cannon, and 3 month old Raiden Nehlig, all from Willows, died in the crash. Incident happened around 1 pm Wednesday when a Mercury Sable was heading west on Highway 162 east of Willows when it reportedly drifted into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a gasoline truck. The driver of the truck reportedly did not suffer any injuries. 

Willows Fatal Ax

Three people are dead after a head-on collision in Glenn County. A Mercury Sable was heading westbound on Highway 162 east Willows around 1 pm Wednesday when it reportedly drifted into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a gasoline truck. Authorities say a man, a woman, and a baby who were in the car died in the crash. The driver of the truck reportedly did NOT suffer any injuries.

Butte County Rape Case Verdict

A rape case that's more than 10 years old ends in a guilty verdict. The case stems from an incident in April of 2004. The victim was 16 at the time and claims she woke up in an alcoholic stupor and was allegedly being sexually assaulted. Her mother brought the matter to authorities and the suspect, identified as 43 year old Demetrio Garcia reportedly fled the area. He returned to Chico in April of 2015 and was arrested soon after. Garcia was found guilty by a jury this week of the crime.

Victims killed in last week's fatal crash on Nord Highway have been IDed

Butte County authorities announced Monday that 28-year-old Victor Moncada Jr. of Channelview, Texas and 60-year-old John Sanchez of Stockton were the two men that died last Friday when their Dodge Ram flipped over the Mud Creek Bridge on Nord Highway just west of The Esplanade. A passerby reportedly discovered the wreckage and a body in the creek bed around 7:30 am. Officers arrived and found another body in the vehicle.
Autopsies for both victims are scheduled for this week.   

Nord Collision

CHICO POLICE CLOSED NORD HIGHWAY WEST OF THE ESPLANADE THIS MORNING AFTER A FATAL ACCIDENT NEAR THE MUD CREEK BRIDGE. CHICO POLICE OFFICIALS HAVE REPORTED THAT TWO PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN THE ACCIDENT THAT HAPPENED JUST BEFORE 8 AM THIS MORNING.
 
OFFICIALS SAID THE SUV INVOLVED IS UNDER THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE AND ONE OCCUPANT WAS EJECTED FROM THE SUV WHILE THE OTHER WAS STILL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. NO WORD YET ON THE IDENTITY OF THE VICTIMS INVOLVED.
 
TRAFFIC IS BEING DIVERTED THIS MORNING AS OFFICIALS HAVE CLOSED NORD HIGHWAY FROM THE ESPLANADE TO MERIDIAN AS THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES. DRIVERS SHOULD EXPECT DELAYS AND ARE URGED TO AVOID THE AREA. STAY TUNED TO KPAY THROUGH OUT THE DAY FOR UPDATES.

 

Corning Building Fire

An early morning fire in Corning Wednesday reportedly looks suspicious. The fire broke out about 7 am Wednesday at the Kauffman Building at 5th and Solano in Corning. It took about 2 hours to get a handle on the abandoned building. No one was injured, but nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution and Solano Street between 4th and 6th streets was closed down. There were reports of heavy smoke from the fire. One fire official says the fire was not caused by faulty wiring, so it now looks suspicious. 

Modoc County Deputy Fatal

ALTURAS, Calif. (AP) — A deputy responding to a disturbance call in Northern California was shot to death the state's fourth law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty in two weeks. Modoc County sheriff's Deputy Jack Hopkins, 31, was fatally shot after deputies were called to a rural area near the Oregon border. Authorities say a suspect was detained shortly afterward.

The verdict is in the Patrick Feaster Case

The jury took less than 24 hours to find 32-year-old Patrick Feaster guilty, Tuesday, in a Butte County court room. Feaster was charged with being criminally negligent when he shot 26-year-old Andrew Thomas in the neck in November 2015. The shooting took place after a brief pursuit that ended in a rollerover crash on Pearson Road in Paradise. Thomas was shot after attempting to get out of the vehicle. Feaster claimed he fired inadvertently while pulling the weapon out. Prosecutors had argued that Feaster did not follow proper training as a police officer.

Authorities continue their search for a missing Berry Creek man

54-year-old Nick Medlennoff was last seen at his home on Oak Drive in Berry Creek last Thursday. Authorities say that he had been to Food Maxx in Oroville earlier that day. 
Medlennoff is described as being 5 foot, 10-inches tall and weighs 110 pounds and he has black hair. He was last seen wearing black sweat pants and a black vest over a t-shirt. He is considered at risk due to medical issues and he has trouble walking even for short distances.   
Anyone with information on Medlennoff's possible whereabouts is asked to contacted the Butte County Sheriff's Office at (530) 538-7671.

The North Valley Fire, Health, and Safety Expo

The expo will take place at the Walmart Parking lot on Forest Avenue from 3 pm to 6 pm Wednesday. Organizers say that there will be pop corn, games, and demonstrations. One of those demonstrations will feature the Bomb Squad's robot. There will also be fire engines, ambulance, and police cars. 

The Police Community Advisory Board Meeting

This month's meeting will be from 5:30 to 6:30 pm this Wednesday in room 203 of the Bell Memorial Union on the Chico State campus. Discussions will include, bike path cameras and the Halloween Operations Plan. Chico Police say the advisory board is designed to be a link between the community and the police department and that public input is encouraged.  

Butte County authorities are ruling out foul play as the cause of death for a Bay Area man

Stephen Jones was reported missing back in February and was found September 9th face down along the shore of Lake Oroville. Though his body was badly decomposed, authorities were able to determine that there was no sign of trauma to the body. That and the circumstances surrounding Jones going missing has led authorities to believe that his death was accidental.

Almond Hulling Co Op Fire

Action News Now is reporting that a fire broke out at a almond hulling co-op in Chico this morning. The fire started at the North State Hulling Cooperative Inc. on Miller Avenue in Chico around 4 am this morning. Reportedly over 7500 tons of almond hulls are on fire. According to Cal Fire, the rain helped crews as they fought the fire.

Butte County Authorities Investigate a Fatal Shooting

25-year-old Andrew Paz Junior was brought to the Bangor Fire Station with a single gunshot wound to his abdomen after 5:30 Tuesday morning. Paz was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies went to a home on the 100 block of Bangor Park Road where they found the victim's 20-year-old brother Lorenzo Paz and his father. Deputies also found firearms and marijuana grows at the residence. Authorities learned that Lorenzo had shot his brother and he was arrested. However, his motive for the shooting is unclear.

Bay Area Ammonia Spill

PINOLE, Calif. (AP) — A hazardous materials spill of ammonia and bleach sent three San Francisco Bay Area officers to the hospital and crews scrambling to clean up the mess. KNTV reports Contra Costa Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Lou Manzo says about five gallons of ammonia and seven pints of bleach spilled from a vehicle at the Pinole Vista Shopping Center near Interstate Highway 80 late Monday evening. The cause of the spill was not immediately known.

Arrests are made after an assault with a deadly weapon in Oroville.

Arrests are made after an assault with a deadly weapon in Oroville. A man reportedly stumbled onto Lower Wyandotte Road with a head wound around 4 pm Saturday. Deputies arrived and learned that the man had left a local casino with two women. They took him to an abandoned property and then allegedly assaulted him with pepper spray and a baseball bat. The unidentified man was flown to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Authorities found 35-year-old Angela Cross and 40-year-old Tammy Waldrop. Cross was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and Waldrop arrested for accessory to the assault.

A Magalia woman is arrested after an alleged machete attack.

A Sheriff's deputy along with Paradise Police officers were dispatched to the 6 thousand block of Allentown Road in Magalia after 12 pm Saturday after reports of a woman allegedly attacking people with a machete. Officers found two victims with injuries. One was sent to a local hospital and the other was treated at the scene. The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Aina Lozanda was found at a nearby home and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. 50-year-old James Peer, who was also at the home, was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.  

Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting near the Chico State Campus.

Officers arrived and found a 23-year-old Hispanic man with several gunshot wounds on the 6 hundred block of Rancheria Drive around 3:30 am Sunday. The victim was taken to the hospital where he is listed in serious condition but is expected to survive. Witnesses reported seeing an unknown man speaking to the victim just before the shooting. Police say there were numerous bullet impacts in the surrounding buildings but there were no other injuries. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact Chico Police. 

Possible Driveby in South Chico

Chico P.D. is reporting a possible drive-by in south Chico.
Reports came in after 9 am about a grey car seen in the area of Humbodlt Avenue and Cypress Street. The car was seen with occupants allegedly carrying guns. Chico P.D. is reporting that there were shoots heard fired in the area that it maybe a drive-by incident. Police are now holding traffic at the intersection on Humbodlt Avenue and Cypress Street.
Authorities are saying that there are three males, a female, and a child hold up in a house in the area.

 

Police are investigating shots fired in Chico

Officers responded to a report of possible vanalism at an apartment on the 8 hundred block of Rancheria Drive after 2 am this morning. Officers discovered a broken window of an apartment unit. They went inside and found a bullet. According to police, no one was inside the apartment at the time of the incident. Police are currently searching for the suspect or suspects involved the incident.

Three cars were reportedly involved an accident just before the Skyway exit at the overpass around 8:26 am this morning. An older Ford Explorer was allegedly seen fleeing the scene after the accident. Authorities believe the driver that left the scene may have an injured arm. There was a large amount of glass and debris in the roadway, but that's been cleared and now both lanes are open to traffic.

Three cars were reportedly involved an accident just before the Skyway exit at the overpass around 8:26 am this morning. An older Ford Explorer was allegedly seen fleeing the scene after the accident. Authorities believe the driver that left the scene may have an injured arm. There's a large amount of glass and debris in the roadway and traffic is backed up to the E 20th Street. The west bound lane is blocked while Cal Trans crews are cleaning the dabris.

Butte County Lightning Sparked Wildfires

Butte County fire crews are working on multiple lightning sparked wildfires. Cal Fire says that there are 5 confirmed lightning related fires in Butte County. One of those fires has been controled and the others are being worked on by fire crews. According to Cal Fire, all blazes are less than a 1/4 of an acre. The fires were sparked by lightning during Sunday's thunderstorm. 

Butte County Sheriff's Swearing in Ceremonies

Swearing in ceremonies take place this morning for two deputies for the Butte County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Sheriff Tifany Larson and Reserve  Deputy Sheriff Geoffrey Heath will take the oath at 10 AM at the County Sheriff's Main Office in Oroville. The swearing in ceremony will also include the introduction of the newly formed Sheriff's Community Relations Unit. The idea of the community relations unit is to form positive partnerships with the media and public. 

CA Rain, Hail, and Snow

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — An unseasonably cool weather system dropped rain and hail in parts of Northern California and dusted the Sierra Nevada with snow.

Several ski resorts around Lake Tahoe tweeted photos of snow on the slopes on Sunday. The National Weather Service says up to 3 inches of snow could fall until midnight.

Spotty showers moved across the region, where nearly a half-inch of rain fell in the northern Sacramento Valley.

Hail was reported in Chico, about 80 miles north of Sacramento, as well as Rocklin and Folsom Lake.

Scattered rain fell in the San Francisco Bay Area/ Sonoma County picked up the most precipitation with Cotati, Occidental, and Guerneville receiving up to a third of an inch of rain.

Forecasters say a second, weaker storm will sweep across the region Monday.

Butte County Correctional Officer Arrest

The Butte County Sheriff's Office reportedly received information that 32-year-old Deputy Ryan Woolery had become involved in a relationship with a female inmate. The Butte County DA's Office stepped in and conducted an investigation where they learned that the Deputy Woolery and the inmate had allegedly engaged in a consensual intimate relationship. Despite being consensual authorities say the conduct was inappropriate and unlawful. Woolerly was arrested and he resigned from his position. Woolery posted bail and will appear in court on October 21st. 

A driver of a stolen minivan leads Chico police on a chase

An officer spotted a green minivan at a gas station in west Chico around 11:30 pm Saturday that he believed was reported stolen. Additional officers arrived and attempted to pull over the van but the driver allegedly took off. The van headed towards Glenn County on several back roads at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. The minivan went off the road into a field west of Ord Ferry and Highway 45. That's when the driver identified as 52-year-old Blas Torres reportedly fled on foot and then jumped into a canal. Officers were able to pull Torres out and arrest him.
