Hiwy 70 to remain closed as Work to Clear roadway continues

Cal Trans Officials report Highway 70 through the Feather River Canyon will remain closed as crews continue to clear the road. Officials say they plan to keep the road closed through the upcoming heavy rain forecasted for the next few days. They expect the road to reopen sometime next week.

Chico PD to Hold Community Engagement Meeting

On Thursday, , the Chico Police Department will hold a Community Engagement Meeting in accordance with Assembly Bill 481. The meeting will be held in the City of Chico Council Chambers and begin at 6 p.m. AB 481 requires law enforcement agencies to obtain approval of a Military Equipment Use Policy from their applicable governing body before taking certain actions related to the funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment as defined by the legislature. The Military Equipment Use Policy is subject to City Council review to determine whether the standards outlined in AB 481 have been met, based upon an Annual Military Equipment Use Report. Chief Billy Aldridge has made the decision to hold the community engagement meeting before the City Council reviews the policy to gain input from the community.

Glenn Co Sups Declare State of Emergency

Glenn County Supervisors approved a local emergency proclamation. This gives the county the authority to apply to the state for recovery assistance to clear the debris that remains after the most recent storm swept through the county from Feb. 15 through Feb. 21. The initial damage estimated to remove debris on roads, natural streams and public right of ways alone is $150,000.

Chico State Frat accused of Hazing

Chico State fraternity Sigma PI has been served a cease and desist letter that says that the frat has been participating in hazing. UNiversity Officials say while the university investigates, the fraternity cannot operate as a recognized student organization, meaning they can't recruit new members or even have any new meetings or events.

CSU Student Workers Vote to Join Union

Students from the California State University campuses agreed to form the nation's largest undergraduate student union. More than seven-thousand of them voted for it across the 23 campuses, students who work on-campus jobs are joining the California State University Employees Union. The next step is to create a negotiating team and present their demands to the Cal State administration. The chancellor's office says they plan to bargain in good faith.

Man killed after being Hit By Big Rig

Overnight the CHP report a man was killed on Hwy 99 near the Esplanade after being hit by a Big Rig.. it happened late Sunday night Officials closed the Southbound lanes of the Hiway for about 2.5 hours..the investigation continues into the reason why the victim was on the roadway..The driver of the Big Rig was interviewed and CHP reports alcohol or drugs not a factor in the accident.

Woman Killed Orovlle Accident

A woman was killed after a car veered off Kusel Road in Oroville hitting a bridge before diving into the water early Saturday Morning CHP identified the driver as Dakotah O'Reily, and the surviving passenger as Richard Lee Overturf. Both men are from Oroville. Police arrested O'Reily on charges of vehicular manslaughter and for taking off from the scene of an accident where people were hurt and killed. The identity of the woman killed is being withheld until family is notified. Police say the crash still under investigation

Break in at Historic Stansbury House in Chico

Someone broke in to the Lower Carriage House at the Historic Stansbury Home in Downtown Chico . According to Board members the break in occured sometime between Monday Night and early Tuesday ..the break in occured in the lower Carriage House that housed Medical Artifacts and Antique Medicines used by Dr Stansbury.  Chico Police are investigating the break in and are asking for any information from the public.. if you know anything you are asked to call the Chico POlice Department

Cal Trans Closes Hwy 70 thru Feather River Canyon

Cal Trans has once again closed the stretch of Highway 70 thru the Feather River Canyon from teh Jarbo gap to the Greenville Wye to due an early Morning Mudslide.

Offcials have not said when they will reopen the roadway.

Storm Knocks Out Power for Thousands

PGE Crews are working to restore power to Thousands of customers impacted by the recnt storm...As of 9a Paradise, FOrest Ranch and areas of Oroville remain in the dark. Tehma County  still reports 2500 residents without Power

Cal Trans reported more rock slides early Friday Morning closing the stretch of Hwy 70 from the Jarbo Gap to The Greenville wye.. there is no word on when they will reopon the highway

House Passes Wildfire Tax Relief Bill

The House voted on and passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024, by a vote of 357-70. The bill includes The Relif from Federal tax on Wildfire Settlement Funds Authored by Congressman Doug LaMalfa and Congressman Mike Thompson. LaMalfa says it now goes to the Senate for their Vote as early as next week.

Chico Woman Sent to Prison for Fatal DUI Crash

Shelby Alvarez, the 26-year-old Chico Woman will be sent for a diagnostic evaluation in state prison over her conviction of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated for a head-on collision on Highway 99 freeway in Chico from December last year. Butte County DA Mike Ramsey said after the evaluation the judge will receive a report from prison experts who will recommend whether she is suitable for prison or whether she merits a chance on probation.
